HIV | HEP C

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) are blood-borne viruses that can cause chronic infections if left undiagnosed and untreated. Blood testing plays a key role in detecting infection and enabling access to appropriate care and treatment.

Decentralized HIV and hepatitis C testing

Blood testing plays a central role in the diagnosis and management of HIV and hepatitis C. Expanding access to testing is particularly important for reaching people who may face barriers to conventional healthcare and venous blood collection.

Capillary blood collection may offer a more accessible alternative by enabling samples to be collected outside traditional clinical settings. Microsampling could support decentralized testing approaches and help extend access to HIV and hepatitis C testing in community-based, outreach, and remote settings.
