Several Swedish Healthcare Regions Choose Capitainer’s Home Sampling Solution – Supporting the Shift to Decentralized Care

Stockholm, May 27, 2025 – Over the past year, several Swedish healthcare regions have entered into partnerships with the MedTech company Capitainer to enable high-quality home sampling in line with the national transition to decentralized care. These projects aim to improve access to care, free up healthcare resources, and increase patient involvement.

Using Capitainer’s CE-marked sampling cards, individuals can collect an exact, volumetrically controlled blood sample at home and send it by regular mail to a laboratory for analysis, without needing to visit a healthcare facility. In the established collaborations, analyses are validated on existing laboratory equipment using Capitainer’s cards, enabling self-sampling without major investments in new infrastructure.

“This saves time in the healthcare system, improves accessibility, and strengthens patient engagement. We see it as a tangible way to turn policy into practice in the shift to decentralized care,” says Christopher Aulin, CEO of Capitainer.

The purpose of the agreements is to enable regions to use the technology across various patient groups and needs starting with implementations for diabetes, thyroid illness and prostate cancer detection where the need for accessible and flexible solutions is high. Self-sampling gives both healthcare providers and patients greater freedom in how and when care is delivered, without compromising on quality or safety.

Capitainer’s sampling card is part of a complete self-sampling kit that complies with MDR regulatory requirements and is registered as an in vitro diagnostic medical device within the EU. The method requires no cold chain or clinical visits, enabling early detection, follow-up, and continuous monitoring.

Growing interest from the Swedish healthcare system highlights how this technology can support more person-centered, efficient, and accessible care both nationally and internationally.

Capitainer welcomes dialogue with additional regions and stakeholders looking to strengthen their decentralized care initiatives through reliable home sampling.
